Tent Instructions


Every tent comes along with its own set-up instructions. The directions provided by the manufacturer helps a camper to set up the tent right with less pain.

Although, most tents work very much alike, it is important for a camper to posses the basic knowledge of “How to” just in case he has misplaced the instruction list.

A basic insight to the set up direction will prove useful in case of emergencies. This article will help you understand the steps towards easy set up of any tent.

  • You should start with spreading up of the fabric on the ground which would form the base of your tent set up. Also, gather together your pole sections. A tent needs to be well secured to stand up on its own so do not forget to stake the floor corners before you set it up. This step can be skipped just in case you have bought a free standing tent for yourself.
  • The second step is to club the poles with the fabric. This can be done in two ways. You can either place the poles into the body's sleeves of the tent or you can clip the fabric according to the pole's framework which would raise the tent as you clip. There are additional features provided by the manufacturers to restore the shape of the tent. These are called guy lines which are additional fittings present on the outer side of the tent.
  • Finally, put the rain fly in place.

This was a basic tent instructions for any tent. Let’s move on to a few special tents.

Dome tent: This tent also follows a similar procedure of tent instructions set up. Spread out the fabric first, assemble the poles in the sleeves and see the tent build its shape. Finally, stake out the corners.

Style tents: Style tents using clips can also be set up with equal ease. Put together and set up the frame. Trim the tent fabric to the poles as you keep raising the poles to position. Last comes the rain fly.

The duty of a camper does not get over by just setting up a tent. You should also know to defend your home especially when in danger. The danger could be bad weather which can ruin your home with heavy leakage during rain. Do not worry; you can avoid this situation by learning to set up a rain dam.

This is not a conventional method were you trench around your tent to divert the rain water. We have something more fruitful and sensible this time, it is the creation of a Rain Dam.

Steps to create a Rain Dam:

  • Create a ridge with 1 - 2" sticks or stones
  • Take the edge of your groundcloth and anchor it under the ridge
  • Stake the tent bu putting the edge on top of the ridge

These three simple steps will direct the rain away from the tent, thus preventing water logging between the tent floor and the ground.
