The ways that you can entertain kids while on a camping trip are near endless. If you plan well, you can ensure hours of entertainment with only minimal equipment to lug around.

Activities already at the campground:

Most of the campgrounds across the US have facilities for kids. Aside from hiking, swimming and fishing already on offer, you can expect to find playgrounds, sports equipment and even organized activities for kids! If you are planning your camping trip well in advance, ask about kid’s activities at the camp site?

Exploring nature:

In order to really appreciate the nature around them, you might find it useful to pack in one or two aids. Things like binoculars and magnifying glasses never fail to entertain and amaze kids!

Games:

There is no end to the amount of child friendly games you can create using only minimal equipment. A pack of cards, a piece of string, and a bit of imagination can result in hours of fun for everyone. For a more traditional approach you can bring along age-appropriate board games that you enjoy at home; chances are they will be even more fun when sitting around a campfire.

If these activities fail to keep your little ones occupied you can also pack in:

Plenty of books:

Use the time as an excuse to bond over bedtime stories, or bring along books that teach them about the wildlife and birdlife in the area. You can spend countless hours watching the wildlife, or even turn spotting various animals into a game.

Some arts and crafts:

Crayons, coloring books and any other kinds of do-it-yourself art projects are fantastic kid’s activities. Camping trips are filled with all kinds of inspiration for budding artists.

The usual suspects:

Any toys or particularly entertaining items that your children play with must be included in the bag with kid’s activities. Camping just isn’t the same without your beloved stuffed animal or toy cars (or whatever their go-to toy might be).

Of course there are some kids’ activities that require no equipment. Watching the stars and waiting on a shooting star must rank highly as one of the most rewarding parts of the camping experience for kids, and best of all it requires no special equipment.

Take your children into the great outdoors and allow them to experience the many joys of camping activities for kids.
